Ms. Aishwarya Rai had inaugurated our Eye bank on the 1st of August 2004 . We have a qualified team of Doctors and Medical personnel who go and collect donated eyes round the clock and we have collected over 50 eyes last year. Eyes are then sent to a coordination center for processing and distribution.

Bharat Eye Bank is a non-profit, social initiative to serve the community. With millions of visually impaired people in the country, we felt it is our moral responsibility to further the cause of eye donations. We would urge each and every citizen to join us in our march towards helping our brothers in need.

Eye Bank Society, Chandigarh registered on April, 1992 under Registration of Societies Act XXI of 1860. (No 2040 of 1992).

Unfortunately in India - where about 8 million die every year - only 14000 to 15000 corneas are harvested for grafting. They import a large number of corneas from Sri Lanka where eye donation is considered a sacred act.

With the aim of making world beautiful for those who could not see, An establishment was made by Dr. Vikas Mahatme in 1987. Mahatme Eye Bank & Eye Hospital is run by SMM Eye welfare Charitable trust & is a Govt. recognized Eye Bank with maximum corneal retrieval & usage in the region. Over the years institute has expanded its wings keeping pace with the time.
